Police arrest factory operator in seditious Facebook post case

GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained a 26-year-old factory operator to assist investigations into an allegedly seditious Facebook post.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Farialatrash Wahid said the suspect was detained at Sungai Petani, Kedah, about 12.15am today before being handed over to police here.

He said police were tipped off about the post on Monday evening, adding that a mobile phone was also seized during the operation.

"Investigations are being carried out under the Sedition Act 1948, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Penal Code," he said in a brief statement.

Police however were tight-lipped over what the post was about while the suspect has been remanded until Friday.
